The SSL Team headed to Austin, Texas, last week for Unify 2026, hosted by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). With over 300 attendees and 50 speakers from around the world, the conference featured more than 20 sessions over two days, including keynotes and live interoperability demos. Conference themes included:

  • Security by design
  • Certification as trust infrastructure
  • Scale beyond the smart home
  • Global alignment around open standards
SSL co-sponsored this year’s event alongside Keyfactor.

Dom Guinard, SSL Director of Product – Content Authenticity and IoT, spoke about the conference. “We had a great three days here at Unify. It was great to see that the pace of Matter adoption has accelerated significantly in recent years. Interoperability is vital for all users, and that’s essentially what Matter is about: creating the application layer for the smart home, for the Internet of Things (IoT), and making all of these devices work together.”

“During one of the sessions, there was talk about a study that showed how consumers generally assume interoperability but also care increasingly more about trust and security. With this interoperability layer that Matter is creating, all devices can indeed communicate with one another regardless of manufacturer, so it becomes tremendously important that those devices can trust one another and that users, in turn, can trust those products. That’s SSL’s specialty, as we provide the trusted identities for these devices.”

“As IoT adoption continues to rise, the CSA and Matter Standard are enhancing interoperability across the connected ecosystem,” Rebecca Kelly , SSL Compliance Officer and Security Auditor, stated. “Central to this interoperability is Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), which provides the device identity, authentication, and trust that are necessary to securely connect billions of devices. At SSL, we’re committed to supporting the PKI solutions that facilitate a secure, scalable, and trusted IoT future.”

“In meeting the future challenges of AI and post-quantum, the mass adoption of IT is growing substantially,” said Leo Grove, SSL President and CEO. “It’s great to be an integral part of that ecosystem where security is paramount, with IoT devices that need to be encrypted and secured to protect your customers. There is always something new to learn about with the standards, and Unify is the right place to do so. We look forward to continuing our involvement in advancing the technology to make the world a safer place.”
